There have been countless tales about Whalers that have continued to float despite the circumstances – a Whaler that carried its passengers 30 miles back to port after a submerged object ripped a three-foot hole in its hull’s bottom. Or the Whaler that was the only boat left floating in a bay following a hurricane, towed back to land by salvagers who then discovered it was still firmly secured to its trailer! There are hundreds, possibly thousands, of stories like these that are testament to Whaler’s miraculous unsinkable Unibond construction.

Cutting a Whaler in two and watching the half with the motor drive away remains the ultimate “seeing is believing” demonstration. So Boston Whaler is literally taking its show on the road to give people a chance to see it with their own eyes. Because it would be prohibitively expensive (and very sad) to cut a Whaler in half at each tour stop, we will cut a single 180 Dauntless in half and then send that boat to dozens of locations throughout Florida and along the eastern seaboard, ending at the Whaler birthplace in Boston, Massachusetts.

At the helm will be seasoned boaters (and Whaler owners) Maria and Dave Russell of North Palm Beach, Florida. They will put the boat through its paces on the water at each location and then trailer the boat to its next destination. You can follow their exploits along the trail right at this Web site at our Captain’s Log page.

Rigged for excitement.
The boat is powered by a fuel-efficient Mercury Marine 135 horsepower OptiMax engine. When the boat is under tow, it rides on a custom trailer designed by EZ Loader, featuring a forward cradle that holds the boat’s severed five-and-a-half foot bow section.

To complete the package, Dodge has provided use of the newest addition to its Ram truck line, the awesome Dodge Ram® Heavy Duty 3500. With its maximum 16,500-pound towing capacity, the Dodge Ram should have no difficulty transporting the Russells and the Whaler to each new tour stop.

Even if you already are sold on the Whaler unsinkability, the half boat running on the water is still a sight to see. Check out our Tour Calendar for the tour location nearest you and see it in person.
